No, you wouldn't.

The watersheds that supply drinking water to 80% of California’s resident cover almost 157 million acres and span 8 states (Figure 1).

Half of CA would revert to the desert that it was not too long ago when it was part of what was called The Great American Desert, before the government (that is the problem not the solution) built the water infrastructure that created the largest man-made oasis in the world. Hollywood isn't the only place in CA that specializes in illusion. There is a sense in which a good deal of Southern California is an magic trick created by scientist/engineer/political visionaries who have manipulated multiple watersheds.

There is also a sense in which the US is an advertisement for free trade--it is the longest running large free trade zone in the world. That has created a lot of interdependence between the states that we take entirely for granted. It would be accurate to say, "We are stronger together".
