The public watchdog group CREW - Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington - has compiled a list of Members of Congress currently under investigationby the government, including Connecticut’s own U.S. Senator Chris Dodd.

According to the CREW report, Sen. Dodd is under investigation for the two sweetheart mortgages he received from Countrywide Financial, a corporation whose name has become synonymous with “subprime lender” in the aftermath of the home mortgage crisis.

The CREW report, interestingly, concludes its brief report on Dodd with this status update:

Status: In the first quarter of 2009, Sen. Dodd spent $31,316.60 in legal fees.66 The status of the investigation is unknown.

It was revealed recently that Senator Dodd still hasn’t paid all of his debts from his quixotic 2008 Presidential campaign with the exception of regular payments to his lawyers at Perkins Coie.
