Midway...The Japanese did not have that advantage

The Japanese had a big advantage on quality and quantity of aircraft also aircraft carriers and other ships.

The only advantage of the USA had was knowing more of what the Japanese intended than the Japs thought the USA had (breaking code as you mentioned).

The reason the US won that fight was bold decision making by very brave admirals, courage of soldiers and lots and lots of luck.

What I find incredible about the whole history of WWII is how totally unprepared the USA was for fighting a war. It took two years to get up to speed. Best example was for the first 22 months of WWII the US Navy's torpedos did not work. They either went under the target or did not explode when they hit.

What is scary is that most Americans do not appreciate how our weakness almost lost that war and in fact allowed the enemy to think they could beat us, hence they attacked. You can tell that history is not appreciated since too many want our weakness today.
