Karl E. Elers Elected Chairman of Hanover Gold Board of Directors
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Hanover Gold Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: HVGO - news) announces the election of Karl E. Elers as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Elers will become involved in the public affairs of Hanover,
including presentations to gold analysts, securities dealers, and the financial markets. He will be seeking out and evaluating new opportunities for the Company to broaden its property base, as well as investigating mutually beneficial business alliances, joint ventures, and partnerships. He will also be involved in shareholder affairs and possible equity placements.

Mr. Elers is Chairman of the Board of Battle Mountain Gold and was CEO until March of 1997, when he retired from that position. Prior to joining Battle Mountain in 1987, Mr. Elers had extensive mining experience beginning in 1962, including Vice President of Production for Duval Corporation, Senior Vice President of Operations of Pennzoil Sulphur Company and Managing Director of Western Ag-Minerals Company. Mr. Elers is also Chairman of Crown Butte Resources, has served on the Board of Directors for Niugini Mining Ltd., the National Mining Association, and the Northwest Mining Association. He was also president of the New Mexico Mining Association and Chairman of the Western Governors' Mining Advisory Council. Mr. Elers holds a bachelor's degree in both geological engineering and mining engineering from the University of Arizona College of Mines and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard's Graduate School of Business Administration.
Mr. Elers, along with Tim Babcock and Robinson Bosworth III joined the Board of Hanover Gold as outside directors during the last quarter of 1997.
