I heard an interesting tidbit on the Tavis Smiley show tonight: Obama's budget has cut Federal funding to 105 HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) by $85 million.

This cut has been greeted with surprise and dismay by the colleges, who did not expect this treatment from the first black president, who is not exactly running an austerity budget, to put it mildly.

I regard it as an important insight into Obama's modus operandi: if he doesn't need you, you are so screwed.

Appease his enemies, bribe the fence-sitters, screw his friends, keep'em all guessing by throwing a new ball into the air every day while claiming he is doing the opposite of whatever it is he is actually doing. That seems to be the method.

He'll probably score some short term wins, but I don't see it as having much long-term potential, myself.
