Re: Boost Garage Profits

In the US you have "SMOG TESTING" - go anywhere. Here you have "approved" places to go - if you fail, you MUST go back to them to get a break on the testing costs.

My father was speaking with one person, who seemed to be in the know of this program, and stated if the Liberals or worse the Communists were back in power, the testing would be FAR more stringent.

Yes the OLD CLUNKERS - BULLSH*T ALRIGHT! And I see PLUMES of smoke coming from Guido's & Mario's Dump trucks - I wonder how much palm greasing, besides their own, is required to get a pass.

Then there are those that are driving with that burning oil smell - like do they pass? What are they thinking? What are they going to do? Burning oil isn't a "small job".

But take heart... from quite a few sources, one of the SUREST ways to fail is driving straight to your local shop and leaving the car to test. You need a GOOD run - both of my tests (my car is 95 Sable - Cough cough - lets not start on a Ford rant please) have been preceeded by an HOUR on the highway/city and getting it tested shortly (with say 1/2 hour); ensure your gas cap is for the car (not from Crappy tire); air cleaner changed; PCV is good to change too - cheap & easy. My car is low mileage - muffler is still from factory - have to see if a little alumina tape will fix any leaks or I should spring for a new hunk of "RUST THE MINUTE YOU LEAVE THE SHOP" TIN muffler...

EDIT: And what I know of the testing, they "average out" - so my 95 sable compares to other similar 95 sables. I have always questioned "questionable" repair shops - ie throwing another car onto the test and typing in the computer it is your car... conspiracy theory..

Merci Bicycle.. I want to ride my bike, I want to ride my Bicycle.. I want to ride my bike...
