EDSL is not what Nortel will call its new technology. Nor will the company call it 10,000Kbps (vs. 56Kbps) modems. Nortel's new DSL will be called EtherLoop, short for Ethernet Local Loop.

For those of us old enough to remember the original Edsel, I'm sure it's a relief to know they're not naming it that.

I do wonder how this fits in with the consortium standards.

Ah, well, the mind is tired. As Scarlet said, "I'll think about that tomorrow."
