VIX used to work great during the brutal 2001-02 period. Last great signal of a market bottom when it was high was in early 2003 when it burst to 40. Since then when it gets to 15-20% above it's 50 day moving average that has signaled a bottom in the market. Let's see how this plays out the next few days.
