I think that's where the phrase "Potemkin Village" came from.

This is quite the opposite of Intel's situation. Intel is keeping the P7 a secret from everybody. I think it's safe to say that it requires a change in the instruction set and won't be supported by software vendors until at least 2000. Maybe they'll follow Apple's lead with their "Apple II Forever!" show and stage an "x86 Forever!" event.
