FCC Grants SBC Permission for Pronto Project (09/08/00, 4:30 p.m. ET) TechWeb News The Federal Communications Commission issued a ruling Friday giving SBC Communications (stock: SBC), San Antonio, permission to begin deploying DSL service through neighborhood broadband gateways. Under the ruling, SBC will offer DSL service from the neighborhood gateways on a wholesale and non-discriminatory basis to CLECs, including its data subsidiary Advanced Solutions Inc. The neighborhood broadband gateways will be part of the company's $6 billion Project Pronto initiative. The FCC granted a waiver for the conditions of the Project Pronto assets. =========================================================== Perhaps this will allow SBC to deploy AFCI's equipment faster, which means a faster ramp up for AFCI.
