The whole concept of party identity is critical today. Perhaps the increasing number of independents should be encouraging.

I have really good friends who both voted for and continue to support Obama. In fact - one of them blames the Republicans for the current excesses because we allowed ourselves to become irrelevant. ( I think that means he disagrees with Obama reality but bought hook line and sinker the need for "change". One might think smart people would at least be curious as to what "change" would be.)

I characterize them as moderate left. Until people like them recognize the Obama threat to the financial stability of the country - the nonsense will continue. These are the people who elected Obama as they are potential swing voters.

They are the ones I characterize as saying when the love their children more than they hate Bush - things will change.
