"But these positives don't balance this out: AOL kept its subscribers flat for the quarter (holding to just over 8 million). While churn may have been higher in the quarter because of the access problems, it's scary to think AOL had to spend almost $90 million in marketing to hold the subscriber base flat. Its ability to market the service and grow the subscriber base without spending SOOOOO much money will be a main theme for AOL in the next six months. If AOL shows it can do that, it'll be in great shape. If it can't, it could be in for very rough times."

"It's interesting: In the recent Find/SVP study, 8 percent of AOL members said they were planning to cancel, and another 8 percent said they were very likely to cancel."
