Counterfeit Dollars Spread Wave of Panic in Peru

Lima, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) A significant amount of US dollars claimed to be printed in Pakistan have spread a wave of panic in Peru, with local banks and businesses refusing to accept them.

A huge headline in Expreso daily warns that "Lima is Flooded with Fogeries" while the warning on Peru 21 reads "Watch out, they can be False".

This monkey business has been going on for three days at banks, the exchange and shops. They reject all bills marked CB B2, but some TV channels only addressed the phenomenon on Monday night.

One person told RPP Noticias radio station that some banks continue to issue the bills but refuse to accept them. In his case, Interbank gave him the false dollars he was unable to change for soles, the national currency.

So far, there has not been an official statement on the affair, and there is an increasing number of phone calls to the radio stations urging for a solution.

The media also explained that other Latin American countries have suffered similar situations, Paraguay among them, since the forged bills are almost untraceable.
