Another thought: A couple of posters have come on this thread claiming to be Democrats, but saying they are going to vote for Bush. I have politely asked them to state their general views so we could see how that fits with their voting record. They of course decline.

My voting record matches my views. I liked George HW Bush and voted for him twice. He was a solid fiscal conservative; he was unfairly criticized for raising taxes to try to reduce the deficit (he had large deficits, but he inherited the S&L crisis) and I thought he handled Gulf War I very well.

I really liked Bob Dole and voted for him '96 (but as a fiscal conservative, I thought Clinton had done a decent job in his first term). I campaigned for McCain in '00. Of course both Dole and McCain chastised the religious right for their intolerance of Republicans like me!

Both Dole and McCain have come out in support of Bush. I respect their opinions, but I disagree with them on Bush.

Hope this helps.
