Paul, Your, On a more serious note, I wonder when IBM, a company with more than a few smart people, is going to wake up and realize that their Herculean efforts to design and/or manufacture chips such as the PowerPC and 6x86, NexGEN chips, etc., is leading them further into the nowhereland of success."
Because I don't think IBM knows what else they can do to try to regain their lost control over the industry. Fortunately for IBM they have the cash to attempt to stay involved with every company and new venture that does not involve MSFT and INTC. At the same time, ironically, it is the selling of Wintel products that has enabled them to stay alive in the PC marketplace. Personally I think Intel has been overly kind to IBM after IBM through oil on the fire back in Dec. 94 with the Pentium flaw.
Having gone through the 60's and 70's, and attempted to compete with IBM during those years, I witnessed IBM's fragrant abuse of power. I have no sympathy for IBM now. Besides most of their experienced good people are long gone. Jules |
