The adversion therapy does work if you want it to

Reminds me of the time I was inspecting a tree planting contract. The planters sat down, lit up a MJ joint, and refused to work. They pointed to the cartons the trees came in. "That has Thiram in it. It will make us sick."

Thiram is a substance sometimes sprayed on tree seedlings to repel deer, which love to munch on the planted seedlings to get the high nutrient value out of them.

It's chemically similar to Antabuse.

I'm told that is a substance administered to people attempting to overcome alcoholism by making them sick if they drink.

Thiram has a similar effect.

I told them the truth, which was that the seedlings had no Thiram, since I had not ordered it. The boxes had the label, but it was erroneous.

About half the crew walked off, but the other half completed the project.
