If you had said "Democratic" side I think you would have been more accurate.

OK, fine. I'll let you pick the label for yourself as long as it isn't inaccurate and "Democratic side" isn't.

At any rate, you haven't been listening. The Dems have been yelling about the budget for years... but had no control.

They have been yelling about the deficit, but mostly in terms of "we should increase taxes on the wealthy" rather than "we should cut spending. Some of them have talked about spending reductions in general terms, or for cuts in specific pork programs that were pushed by Republicans. But in most cases, for specific non defense programs they keep saying the president isn't spending enough. Even in areas where spending was increased by 50 or 100 percent or more, the Dems called for more spending. Certainly you couldn't get a majority of Democrats to support an actual 10% reduction in total government spending. But then you couldn't get Bush or a majority of the Republican congress to support that either. You praise Clinton, but government got bigger under him as well, despite the fact that he had an easy opportunity to cut back the military after the end of the cold war. Clinton was no "small government Democrat". Such creatures do exist, but very few of them hold any office.
