Ref: Wall Street Journal article on LS-120 & Iomega...
Erik, thanks for the timely post.
I don't see anything new in this WSJ that we didn't know. Same old stuffs. The "analysts" are the same people who thought IOMG at $10 presplit was way too high. I sure like to have these folks in a room so we fools can ask questions to see how much they do know about the data storage insdustry, consumer needs, future trends, etc. Chances are, like most brokers, they know nothing about it.
But I find the following sentences interesting...
"But it has at least one major rival in that effort: the LS-120, an even larger-capacity drive holding 120 megabytes, or as much data as 83 floppies, that was designed by an engineering partnership of Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. and Japan's Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries Ltd.
The LS-120 has already won a major endorsement from Compaq Computer Corp., one of the leading PC makers in the world, which in April began shipping the product as a standard component on a small number of business computers."
Now this is interesting, could it be that Compag is trying to distant themselves from the LS-120? They are no longer mentioned as an LS-120 partner, just endorsing it. Is the WSJ totally ignorant of this point, or are they trying to help Compag a bit?
