On the other hand, as the famous reflector experiments conducted by our threadfellows indicate, there's a good possibility that the Nomai disks won't work in all current Zips either.

I don't think there's any connection between the rebates and Nomai. Since the Zip+ comes in at a higher price point, it's not a replacement for the regular Zip. It's an addition to the product line. I believe that's why the rebate is only for two weeks. They want to reduce Zip inventory at retail to make room for Zip+.
