Feasibility study to begin on copper-cobalt deposit Trillion Resources Ltd TLQ Shares issued 22,364,500 May 15 close $1.25 Tue 19 May 98 News Release See Melkior Resources Inc (MKR) News Release Mr. Jens Hansen reports Melkior Resources has completed a technical and administrative visit to Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, Congo. Jens Hansen, P. Eng., president of both Trillion Resources and Melkior, was accompanied by Dominic LeBlanc, the company's legal adviser now practicing in New Brunswick following four years as assistant to Prime Minister Chretien in the Prime Minister's office. Also present was Doug Casey, a well known speaker and best selling author of several books including "The International Man" and "Crisis Investing." Doug Casey is researching a new book on international investing. Melkior is the operator of the Trillion-Melkior joint venture in Congo where Trillion has assigned its obligations to Melkior in return for back-in rights. The Trillion-Melkior joint venture is operating in Congo in partnership with Gecamines, the state owned copper-cobalt mining company which maintains the right to a 51 per cent interest in any projects that are developed. The investment climate has substantially improved in the Congo since the formation of the new government. Private investment is encouraged and security of investment is emphasized. South African companies are particularly active. Trillion's operating base in nearby Zimbabwe places the group in a particularly advantageous position. Melkior and Trillion have many years of African operating experience. Gecamines has formally offered Trillion-Melkior the right to rapidly develop the Kabolela copper-cobalt deposit. This deposit is one of several within the joint-venture's government-approved exploration partnership with Gecamines covering a property of 2,800 square kilometres surrounding the mining and metallurgy centre of Likasi. The area, at 1,100 metres, has an agreeable climate, savannah type vegetation similar to Zimbabwe and excellent infrastructure. The Kabolela deposit was mined from 1939 to 1945 by Union Miniere, the predecessor of Gecamines. 439,762 tonnes grading 4.84 per cent copper and 2.38 per cent cobalt were extracted. At today's prices the extracted minerals have a value of approximately $400-million (U.S.) demonstrating the value of small, high grade deposits. Three such deposits are currently being mined by private Congo, Belgian and South African companies in partnership with Gecamines. The reported in situ reserve reconfirmed by Gecamines in 1970 and amenable to open pit mining is 3.7 million tonnes of ore grading 3.8 per cent copper and 0.7 per cent cobalt. Melkior has undertaken metallurgical studies on a 200 kilogram sample, which graded 8.12 per cent copper and 0.83 per cent cobalt. Leaching tests returned 90 per cent recovery for copper and 50 per cent recovery for cobalt. In a 1970 drill program undertaken by Gecamines, 29 holes were drilled for a total of 5,857 metres. As indicated in the table below, interesting values for copper and cobalt content were obtained. Gecamines and Trillion-Melkior wish to proceed as rapidly as possible to production at Kabolela. A full feasibility study on the exploitation of this deposit will begin as soon as possible with confirmation drilling. The partners will use the cash flow generated at Kabolela to accelerate their exploration activities on this property. Particularly in light of the technological advances of the last 50 years, substantial exploration potential exists on the Kabolela trend. Melkior-Trillion have therefore begun detailed exploration of selected magnetic and uranium anomalies within the 2,800 square kilometre property in the search for new deposits, in addition to working on other known copper-cobalt deposits.
