Going Alinsky on Letterman (chad)

I like the idea of making him an example.

Updated below the fold
(and again -- someone)

Answering the open blog call

We all know that David Letterman stepped in it this week. Besides being an unfunny has been his jokes about the Palin family have lit up the dextrosphere and as near as I can tell people are still angry as hell about them.

That's good because it gives the conservative right a chance to steal from the Obama playbook and go Alinsky on Letterman.

This seems perfect for a little Rule 1, 3, and 12 combined action:

Cynthia Yockey - A newly conservative lesbian - has some suggestions:

Be tenacious
The campaign must last at least 30 days anything less and CBS will try and wait it out
The campaign must target not only CBS but the advertisers too
Not just the main office but the Executive suite of the advertisers. CEO, CFO, COO
I would also recommend calling local franchises and telling them you won't be eating there as long as they advertise on Letterman and filling out comment cards where applicable
Realize that Letterman is an opportunity for empowerment
It gets boring sending out these letters day after day, but the upside is, if the campaign is successful, conservatives will be looked at with a little bit more respect (or fear which can be just as useful ask Al Sharpton) by CBS et.al.

Sebastian Gray at Hillbuzz has a lot more, and it's worth the read.

Update: This got a bigger response than I expected and judging by the tone of the answers people are ready to start taking some direct action. After the election I suggested 4 points we should look at:

1. We need to fight fire with fire – Obama learned a lot of his organizational and confrontational skills as a community organizer utilizing Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”. We need to develop those skills ourselves and apply them with a conservative twist. In addition ACORN et. al. hold camps to train their activists . Conservatives should be doing the same. Not only that but there should be workshops on how to deliver a good speech, how to deal with the press. etc.

2. We need to be thinking long term. We can’t continue to let liberals control the media and the schools. Scholarships and grants need to be developed that attract conservatives to those fields. I also still like the idea of the Foundations of Freedom series developed on the same lines as Schoolhouse Rock, and in fact I think the RNC should print those books such as Wealth of Nations, The Federalist Papers etc. that are in the public domain as a set and donate them to school and public libraries along with a curriculum / reading list. It would be especially interesting to print an annotated Constitution that allows kids to go back and see where the ideas in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights developed.

3. The Republican Revolution of 1994 required two things – Newt Gingrich and The Contract with America. We no longer have Newt, but a new contract can be developed. I have ideas about what should be contained, I bet a lot of other people do too.

4. Here I am going back to point one for a second. Alinsky says that you have the power people think you have. Right now it is obvious that the RNC doesn’t think we have any power. We need to show them we do. The easiest way to do that is to withhold donations until Nicole Wallace, Steve Schmidt and Mark MacKinnon are disavowed.

I still think these are valid points except we need to add Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to point

4. Maybe the time has come to start making a move on some of this.

Update 2 (someone): Sorry to barge in, chad, but I wanted to add this further tidbit. Via Redstate, it seems there's a rally planned for outside the Ed Sullivan Theater on Monday at 4:30 (Letterman's taping time).

I am pleased to report that we have received enough volunteer leader commitments from the now 2,253 people on this mailing list to make a FIRM DECISION to go forward with a planned FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN RALLY, currently scheduled to be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm this Monday June 15 outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, located at 1697 Broadway in New York City.

If you live anywhere within a 4 hour driving distance of New York City, please plan on attending this event. Bring your own signs (be creative but PG rated!). We will be announcing more details over the weekend so stay tuned.

We need more volunteers to help our "Project Servant-Leaders", so please email me at michaelpatrickleahy@gmail.com if you can provide some time.
[snip]
Keep telling your friends on the internet and in person to sign the letter to CBS asking them to fire David Letterman at our website, firedavidletterman.com

Mind you, I think the sponsors are more important. Keep writing them letters.
