Gregor, The first battle that a Christian must come against continually is the war within himself.

Romans 7:24,25
"O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin."
I can imagine Paul's state of mind when he said this. You can tell he is in great turmoil at the thought of giving in to the lusts of the flesh. This is especially true of new Christians because as you say, Satan will come against them as never before to show God that his own can be tempted to sin and unfaithfulness.

We cannot be a witness to others in an effective way until we are able to stand against our evil natures. I have never seen a truly humble man that is not troubled with this save Jesus.
My dear wife witnesses because people sense the spirit within her. They question why because they want the thing that she has. She has never had to push another to seek Christ. Many see Christ within her. Thank God that I have someone who serves as a witness to me that I may see the proof of God's presence. I have also seen, done and experienced many things that hang over me like King David's house. David was a man after the Lord's heart but he was prevented from building God's Temple because of his past sins. A sword hung over him for the rest of his life. He was forgiven but God still had to judge him by his past deeds.
