Broker Humor: The Cocktail Party Bullish Percent Index...

Another holiday is approaching and the market has been good again so far this year. You will undoubtedly be frequenting a number of cocktail parties or cookouts at this time of year. We have found that these parties can give someone very helpful insight in negotiating a very volatile and unpredictable stock market. Keep a copy of this with you for reference purposes.

Event:
Your best friend and neighbor has a cocktail party to which you are not invited.
Market Direction:
The market is at the bottom. Call all your clients and tell them to buy if anyone will answer the phone. Market just had a 6% reversal to the upside from below the 30% level.

Event:
A friend invites you to a cocktail party. However, when the other guests see you they move to the other side of the bar.
Market Direction:
The market is in a basing formation and will rally shortly. Market is in Bull Alert status and about to rise above the critical 30% level.

You are attending a cocktail party. People who know you come over to ask how the market closed today and what you think they should buy.
Market Direction:
The market is in a major upswing. Just moved into Bull Confirmed status and crossed the 50% level.

You are attending a cocktail party. When people hear you are an investment advisor they come over and introduce them selves and discuss the market.
Market Direction:
The market has had a large rally and is now receiving good group rotation. The Bullish Percent is rising and nearing the 70% level. Offensive team doing well.

Event:
A client invites you to a cocktail party. When you enter the room he asks everyone to be quiet for a moment while he introduces you as "his investment adviser".
Market Direction:
The market is nearing a top. A reversal from a lower high with the Bullish Percent Index around the overbought 70% level.

Event:
Your best friend invites you to a cocktail party and dinner in your honor.
Market Direction:
The market has reached the top. Call your clients the next morning and tell them to sell everything. Of course, they won't as they will think you are kidding. Therefore, sell everything you own so you will have the money to buy your own drinks as the market drops back to below the 30% level on the Bullish Percent Index.
