Are we having a problem peeking into the future here? You are thinking in terms of today, Gates is thinking in terms of tommorrow. I know Gates is no god, but you must give him some credit for extraordinary foresight (after all, he did build the worlds most powerful software company and threatens to be the only one to maintain that status over a major paradigm shift). Software will be an integral part of the NEW MEDIA. Why else will Welch offer Gates 50% for such a low price (220 million is almost 50% of the first years losses, that does not seem low to you, think of what the other giants paid on a a time/inflation adjusted basis). Why else would Welch pick MICROSOFT?
