ATEC Group Introduces Red Hat Linux Operating System for Nexar Personal Computers Business & Technology Editors HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2000--ATEC Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATEC), today introduced a RED HAT(R) Linux operating system for its existing Nexar(R) Empower series. RED HAT (NASDAQ: RHAT) recently authorized ATEC Group as an OEM reseller of its Linux operating system, enabling the company to perform analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and support services for this Linux-based Empower series. The new personal computer can run on a variety of processors, including the Intel(R) Pentium(R) III and Intel(R) Celeron(R), AMD-K6(R)-2 and AMD Athlon(TM), and offers high performance and reliability. Originally developed by Linus Torvalds, Linux is a fully featured operating system that runs extremely robustly on a variety of hardware. Recently gaining widespread popularity among the corporate, government and general consumer markets because of its versatility, Linux, according to International Data Corp. research, is the fastest-growing server operating environment over the past two years, capturing more than 25 percent of the market in 1999. By offering a RED HAT Linux operating system, ATEC Group intends to attract an additional base of clients - including IT consultants and developers - in addition to appealing to its traditional cadre of end-users in the government, education, corporate and Internet Service Provider markets. The new RED HAT Linux-based Empower PC is available from the company's Technical Information Services (TIS) division or the ATEC Group web site, www.atecgroup.com, through its build-to-order (BTO) capability. This new BTO site feature, available since late 1999, is now fully operational and offers enhanced features, making it more user friendly and easier to navigate. "We are very pleased to now offer our clients the option of a RED HAT Linux operating system for their Empower PCs," said Rahul Rametra, chief operating officer of Nexar. "Corporate demand for the RED HAT Linux operating system is surging, and this new model should provide our clients with the most up-to-date technology. "The fully functional BTO capability on our web site will also provide a fast and convenient way to configure an Empower, Enable and Infinity line of PCs to custom specifications. Many leading retail computer outlets, in fact, are currently reviewing our BTO feature to enable their customers to build PCs precisely suited to their individual requirements," Rametra added. Commented Surinder Rametra, chairman and CEO of ATEC Group, "We made a strategic decision to offer RED HAT Linux operating systems due to the huge response we were receiving from both current and potential clients. Having spent more than six months in development and working with the RED HAT operating system, we are confident that this new PC meets the highest standards of performance. In addition, BTO will offer standard components approved by RED HAT, enabling our clients to design a PC that will provide optimal compatibility and reliability."
