But all of that is just small things. I don't brag about that, because I know that I'm just one guy trying to save a few pennies on fuel. I advocate being a good environmental citizen, but I'm also realistic about just how much of an impact I will have. These are just minor habits that amount to nothing more than environmental awareness and feel-good actions. Maybe that's valuable, but it sure isn't going to change the fact that unless I seriously reduce my standard of living, I'm always going to consume more than my "fair share" of energy compared to the rest of the world.

They may be minor when only a few people do it but when many do it the impact is sizeable. Since 1980, conservation has reduced significantly the number of new plants needed to provide heat and cooling to its customers. When a lot of people do it, it makes a huge difference. The successful recycling by many has extended the life of a dump near Seattle from 2000 to 2010.

Conservation works.......and can have a significant impact.
