5:04 PM Shorts Novellus Reaction : Prices vs. 4 pm close... NVLS -1.22 trading lower after edging out expectations and providing guidance that clears up little going forward. Sector peers AMAT -1.06, KLAC -1.41, and LRCX -0.77 in sympathy.

4:57 PM Shorts Novellus (NVLS) 46.37 -3.61: -- Update -- In Q&A portion, clarified that Q3 bookings guidance of $190 mln is net, not gross.. noted that in Q2, it didn't account for late cancellations in its original forecast of $220 mln (Q2 had gross bookings of $250 mln, but following cancellations, net bookings were $210 mln)... also indicates it now expects annual bookings to be approximately $800 mln (prior expectation was for $1.0 bln)... 4:51 PM Shorts Novellus (NVLS) 46.37 -3.61: -- Update -- On call, says it expects Q3 EPS of $0.24 (First Call consensus is $0.24) and revenues of $300 mln (Multex consensus is $314.1 mln); forecasting bookings of approximately $190 mln, but due to tremendous uncertainty in marketplace, says that number could be up or down 15% from guidance (clarified that if it were to be up 15%, it would be copper-driven)... 4:11 PM Shorts Novellus (NVLS) 46.37 -3.61: Reports Q2 net of $0.40 a share, a penny better than consensus, vs yr-ago EPS of $0.54; sales rose 3.6% to $376.9 mln (mean $378 mln). 'There is significant uncertainty in the semiconductor industry at this time as both end-user markets in computers and telecommunications remain weak; see press release.
