One of the reasons that may have happened was public demand to get drugs approved more rapidly.

I have dealt with numeous illnesses with friends and family---
always there seem to be drugs/medicines that were in the process of development but not being approved by FDA.

Sid Wolf who puts together the Best Pill, Worst PIlls book for the Nader organization-------------suggests that you not be the first to try a new med, give it 2 to 3 years until it's effectiveness and side effects are known in the public market.

In other words, if you are amongst the first you are part of the experiment.
