Something the great unwashed one never pays attention to...
At $29 for a 2.2 gig disc, you have a valuable item. An item you won't carry around casually, and you certainly won't loan to someone unless you're certain it will come back.
Another thing...Are those 2.2 gig discs rugged? Can I throw one in a briefcase or backpack? Toss one on a desk? I can do this with a Zip.
A 2.2 gig disc is needed for what? Backup of most or all of your hard drive, or very large audio-visual files, and nothing else.
A $9-10 100 meg (soon to be 200 meg) disk is something I can give out and not really worry if it comes back (at least not much).
Does anyone here remember when a 3.5 disk was $5? I do, that was about 1982 or so. It took more than 10 years to get rid of the 5.25 disk (at least in terms of it no longer being a standard on computers.
It won't take that long with the Zip, my guess is about 2 years from now virtually all computers will come standard with a Zip, and the 3.5 will be an option.
BTW, I've been long since Jan of 77. Bought a small amount at about $8.5 (split adjusted), sold half at $14 for a good profit, bought some more at $7, sold at $5 (for a loss). I'm ahead so far and holding a half of the original purchase, which I won't sell until we get to at least $14 again. BTW, I think $14 is not unlikely by next summer.
