I've doing this preloading thing in IE for a while, same technique as you. Right click the link, and select Open in New Window. You then have to manually hide the new window (grrr), but o/w it works fine under Win95.

Doesn't NSCP do this? Also, something I'm curious about is: Does NSCP allow you to use TAB to move between the active areas and use ENTER to select a link? IE can be used without a mouse, which is kinda handy on occasion.
