Well, no matter what I say you won't read it.... I said nothing about whether S80 can compete with starfire.

What I was trying to get at is that neither starfire nor S80 nor any other big iron Unix machine is being used as a web server platform. That market is going to the cheapest PCs people can buy in the "roll your own" market, and to 1U rackmount 2P machines optimized for big web farms in the "big boy" market.

S80 covers roughly the UE6500 and UE10000 products in terms of performance and capacity.

IBM (and in another month, CPQ) are making the high end Unix specs game interesting. But both IBM and CPQ sell into fairly specialized segments, with IBM having a little broader base. Those machines are capable in performance terms but they don't much meet Sun in the marketplace. As long as Sun stays on course with its high end roadmap, there will be little reason for the market dynamics to change.
