More Than 10,000 Companies Around the World Commit to Distribute 100 Million+ Copies of Netscape Navigator and
Communicator to Users This Year; Netcenter Membership Surpasses 4.7 Million Mark

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Netscape Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: NSCP) today
announced that it is continuing to see strong momentum for its market-leading Netscape(R) Communicator and Netscape
Navigator(R) client software as well as its Netscape Netcenter portal site. Through Netscape's Unlimited Distribution program,
launched just three and half months ago, more than 10,000 Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Web content providers, software
developers and others around the world have committed to distribute more than 100 million copies of Netscape client software
to users this year. In addition, Netscape's rapidly expanding Netcenter portal site -- easily accessible from the Netscape
browser -- has surpassed 4.7 million members.

"The success of our Unlimited Distribution program demonstrates that Netscape client software continues to be the choice of
thousands of companies," said Mike Homer, executive vice president and general manager of Netscape's Web site division.
"The combination of our market-leading client software and Netcenter portal site positions Netscape as the leading choice for
millions of users who want easy access to Internet content, information, services and software they need."

The Unlimited Distribution program, launched in conjunction with Netscape's January announcement to make its client software
free, allows participating companies to download and redistribute Netscape Communicator and Netscape Navigator easily to
their customers. With total participation topping 10,000, Netscape's Unlimited Distribution program has attracted scores of
leading organizations, including: Addison Wesley Longman, Apple Computer, Borders Group Inc., Easter Seals/March of
Dimes National Council, Jaguar Cars Ltd, National Institute of Health, Oppenheimer Capital, U.S. Geological Survey, UC
Berkeley, Viacom - MTV Networks, and Wells Fargo Bank. In addition, approximately half of the 100 million copies of
Netscape client software committed to be distributed through the Unlimited Distribution program come from companies in
international markets, demonstrating the momentous growth Netscape has seen outside North America over the past few
months.

Program participants can license free of charge the Netscape Client Customization Kit (CCK), which allows companies to
freely distribute and customize the world's most popular Internet client software to give it their own corporate brand-name look
and feel. The Netscape CCK operates on Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and Macintosh PowerPC systems.
Under the program, anyone can obtain Netscape's free client software through promotional CD-ROM give-aways or by
conveniently downloading the client software from participating companies' Web sites.

Netscape also announced today that its Netcenter portal site has experienced significant growth since last fall. One of the most
highly trafficked sites on the Internet, Netcenter offers users content, community, computing and content services for both
consumers and businesses. Netscape is in the midst of its "Project 60" campaign to rapidly grow Netcenter by adding a number
of new programs, including Netscape WebMail by USA.NET and the new Netscape branded search and a set of leading
content channels through a major agreement with Excite.
