I recently saw some information showing the market segmentation of the computer systems. Wintel machines dominated 50% of the market at the low end, and Sun, HP, DEC, SGI, IBM and others (traditional WS and server makers dominated the top 50%). This information was from the past. The most recent information from last year showed Wintel machines beginning to move up the performance ladder. It showed the lower performance machines of the high end begin dominated by Wintel machines with PII processors. This is the segment of the low to mid range Sun machines (depending on configuration, entire discussion on its own). The important point is the traditional WS (unix) business is loosing market share to Wintel machines. This will have an impact on SGI especially in the low to mid range graphics market.
