Actually making a person suffer for a couple months seems less unethical to me that robbing a person of years from their life due to socialized medicine.

If by socialized medicine you mean the flavor of socialized medicine that makes private medicine illegal, I would agree with you. That is unconscionable. But I don't think that flavor is likely enough to be worth factoring into the analysis.
