Ion generators produce ozone and are a no no really. Putting one in the exhaust is another matter, as it would help catalysis and perhaps make more or less? NOx :)

A good good way to reduce pollution, CO and clean exhaust, plugs and oil is install a vapour generator in your carb or intake. It depends on your vehicle where you put it. It can be installed by a drilled hole in the intake manifold or by the intake screws at the base of the carb. A hose of 1/8 inch size goes to an alcohol water tank. The tank has small receiver inside attached to the hose. The receiver has a pin hole of about 1/128 inch drilled in it. It is immersed in the contained fluid. The fluid should be 50-50 isopropyl and water. The fluid should drain at a rate of, say, 2 quarts to 4000 to 8000 miles. It seems miniscule but it has a noticeable effect.
