Software giant Computer Associates (CA) will increase sales of its client-sever software at least 20 percent in the fiscal year that begins April 1, according to the company's forecasts. Doug Robinson, CA's head of investor relations, said at the NationsBanc Montgomery Securities technology conference in San Francisco that client-server software sales will hit at least $3 billion in the coming fiscal year. That's up from an expected $2.5 billion in the current year. Client-server sales are crucial to CA, the world's third-largest software company, as sales of its mainframe software products continue to slip. Paul Dravis, an analyst at Montgomery Securities, estimates that mainframe software sales will decline 4 percent in the current fiscal year. Robinson also said CA is looking to acquire small to midsize services companies.
