C, I was given a 7-day supply of Valtrex and steroids which I finished this a.m. I am still breaking out, so it is far from over. The PAIN is excrutiating! and I understand it is unbearable when the rash starts healing. Contrary to what I thought, I am broken out from shoulder to ankle, so the pain is spread far and WIDE! I have hardly slept for the past 2 weeks.

My husband had the shot a week or two ago. I don't know why the doctor did not tell me about it - perhaps because I have had one thing after another over the past year. I will get it once I am recovered - it may help me from getting another episode of shingles.

I did discover one old time remedy:

Take 2 aspirins, crush them, make a paste with 2 tablespoons of alcohol. Apply to rash as it breaks out - Don't drink it! Doesn't make it go away, but supplies some relief - more than any other suggestion or treatment I have tried.

Maybe I should have tried mixing the aspirin with 100 proof vodka and ingesting it. If I used enough nothing would bother me!

P.S. Valtrex costs around $250 -- doctors don't get free samples :^(
