Hi Thread: PCCLF news: I'm an SI oldie; new to this Thread (I should have found it sooner -- would have save me much DD time! :) }.

Here's my own qk. summary of what's going on right now & why(I left-out the details re: Mannesmann--> Orange ---> etc.) Some is a recap:

C&W owns 54% of HKTel and, since Nov., has been in negos. to sell it to Sing. Tel. The HK Govt. (& the "Chinese Govt." quietly) is/are displeased at the thought that HK Telecom would be based in Sing, & see polit. overtones re: Asia telecom/net hub not then being in HK (= if bought by Sing. Tel). So, with the deal of Vodafone buying Mannesmann, & Hutchison Tel's stake (prev. on thread& news), AND PCCLF being the giant and having $$$$, they = Vodafone, Hutchison & Pac. Century are in "consortium" negos. to buy C&W's HK Telecom int. & keep it in HK.
.
Vodafone reps. are on their way to HK (or there by now).
.
At the request of PCCLF, through two messages to the SEHK, trading was halted @ 2:30 PM HK. (You can read them @ the SEHK site) For that reason, some of the quote sources are not showing the close.
.

As an aside, from the Singapore news "Friday night & +/- 11:00 PM," is also this description of PCCLF's CEO's, Richard Li's, father (= the $$$$ behind it) :

"A bid for HKTel would cap an extraordinary career for Li, who at 71 shows no signs of slowing down.

From modest roots, the tycoon has risen to become one of the world's richest men with a multi-billion dollar fortune built on property and shipping.

In recent years he has also shown himself to have a shrewd understanding of the industries of the future."
.

.
Regardless of whether they are the victors, IMVHPO, PCCLF looks very well-positioned to keep on its forward track. I have not seen any recent news on the PCCLF-ZICA relationship. If any of you have, please reply with it or a URL.

Thanks for all of your news -- and humor. :)
.
Regards,
Carol
