It's a great breakthrough in that they were surprised that you can add so many genes to a mouse and still not screw them up so that they crash and burn. I'm not really too surprised. Systemix was loading up mice with human tissues to put a human immune system in the SCID-HU mice years ago. Mammals are really close genetically and this just goes to show how similar the genetics really are. It wouldn't surprise me if many of the human genes added are similar in function to what is already in the mouse. Also, I didn't recall if they said how many of the human genes inserted were actually functional after the insertion, or if they even know if more than just a few were. So, when do they start putting mouse chromosomes in humans??? Just kidding. How this affects GZTC I have no idea.
