Those things you say they are ahead of us on? They are under attack. In Germany, under Merkel, they learned that deferring maintenance on infrastructure means you can brag about cutting costs. And other stupidities we saw under Reagan. Granted, they have further to go, but they sure seem eager to catch up with us.
