SAMSys Supplies RFID Readers for Microsoft Business Solutions Project Involving Jack Link's Beef Jerky
SAMSys Technology Will Support Wal-Mart Initiative & Internal Process
Improvements

TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX) announced
today that its radio frequency identification (RFID) readers are being used in
a multi-phase RFID initiative by Jack Link's Beef Jerky, the leading supplier
of meat snacks in the U.S. The project will showcase new RFID functionality
being incorporated into Microsoft Business Solutions Navision, Jack Link's
enterprise resource planning solution.
Jack Link's RFID program is designed to comply with upcoming Wal-Mart
electronic product tracking mandates for trading partners as well as to
improve internal business operations for the food manufacturer. The first
phase of the project involves tagging cases and pallets for select SKUs of
beef jerky destined for Wal-Mart's North Texas distribution center. Future
phases will extend the use of RFID to optimize Jack Link's manufacturing, raw
materials supplies, and internal inventory processes.
SAMSys' MP9320 UHF multiprotocol readers were selected for the project by
the system integrator, Wisconsin-based ABC Computers, because SAMSys' patented
open architecture allows the readers to be used with multiple RFID protocols
and frequencies. This will allow Jack Link's to change RFID tags at any time
to take advantage of evolving standards and technology without being forced to
change their reader hardware.
The SAMSys MP9320 Long-Range UHF Readers are being embedded in SATO
America RFID label printers to provide RFID read/write programming
capabilities. They are also being used to perform verification checks on the
RFID tags as Jack Link's cases and pallets move through the supply chain on
conveyor belts.
The project is also using smart labels and RFID compliance testing
services from Avery Dennison Corp.
"SAMSys' technology is not only delivering the RFID reading and encoding
capabilities we need today but also helping us future-proof our RFID reader
investment. On a project of this scale, that is critical," said Karl Paepke,
Jack Link's vice president of operations. "At the same time, SAMSys is
equipping us with state-of-the-art RFID reader solutions that are enabling us
to get our RFID project off the ground well in advance of Wal-Mart's deadline
and much of the rest of the market. We believe this will give us an important
competitive advantage moving forward."
"Jack Link's early commitment to RFID clearly demonstrates their vision
and appreciation of the benefits that this technology will generate both in
their customer relationships and their in-house operations," said Cliff
Horwitz, chairman, CEO and president of SAMSys Technologies Inc. "Their use of
our readers sends a strong signal to the market about the advantages of our
architecture, the reliability of our products, and our ability to deliver RFID
value immediately."
The Jack Link's project is the second Microsoft Business Solutions RFID
initiative in which SAMSys has been involved. Earlier this year, SAMSys worked
with the Microsoft Business Solutions division in a successful RFID trial at
KiMs' crisp factory in Denmark. SAMSys provided RFID consultancy services,
application experience and all the UHF readers used in the trial, which was
designed to demonstrate the real-world application of RFID in the supply
chain.
