The thing I like about the Democratic Party, is that when we get a villain by accident, we get rid of them. It was literally the demonstrations by liberal Democrats of the 60s against LBJ and support for Gene Mcarthy, that forced LBJ out of office. The liberal Democrats in the Democratic Party forced him to drop out of that race.

I think Hubert Humphrey was more caught up in conforming to the establishment Democrat of the time. At that time specifically there was a great cultural war raging between the counterculture and the establishment, as you know. And between the counter culture and the establishment Democrats.

As you recal, after Jean McCarthy vanquished LBJ, Robert Kennedy rose up and was running for the nomination. And he would've won both the nomination and the presidency. And he would've pulled us out of Vietnam immediately.

What a shame that he was killed. What a shame that all three of them were killed JFK, MLK and Bobby. We would be functioning like the Nordic countries today had they lived, in my opinion.
