What about the split in the communist party? I have Jewish friends whose grandparents were card carriers. There were factions that were pro and anti-Zionism. May have spilled over into the war between Stalinists like Lillian Hellman and Trotskyites? Never quite been able to follow it and it may have been historical, i.e., the party's attitude toward Zionism went through changes over time.
