HIG, Credit Suisse has a report out there (accessible through E*Trade) that compares the balance sheet of various insurers, HIG amongst them. HIG was one of the uglier ducklings there. MET looked pretty good as well as Prudential. MET is a little more expensive than HIG based on PE but in times like those balance sheet strenght and integrity trumps valuation, IMO.
