Thomas,

Although some people trade this stock, I am not one of them. AMAT, over the long-term, has shown returns comparable to INTC, MSFT and CSCO.

That being said, the downturns can be very painful. Personally, I am looking for AMAT to split twice during the coming upturn. Since the downturn was the worst in semi history, I look for capex to take awhile to return to the mean. I hold a bunch of shares with a very low cost basis so I will probably be holding this one for a very long time, barring any missteps by mgt etc etc. I also hold shares on margin which I expect to sell in '00 hopfully at a price of 120-140.

FWIW,

Brian
