I vaguely remember something about this. It appears that CTM is a take-off of the ATM standards. ATM uses one term or achronymn. CTM uses their own matching one. I think that Westinghouse is trying a proprietary lock-in strategy for this set of products. In this day and age, it appears that "Openness is Key". Customers want to be able to choose between products. This competitiveness forces quality and prices improvements by the various vendors.

As to whether their CTM strategy works, we will just have to wait and see. I do not see it affecting the ATM related companies unless CTM itself becomes a standard (which it seems this is not what Westinghouse is trying to do). From browsing the Web Page it appears that CTM is about 10 times cheaper that ATM from a service standpoint (as specified by Westinghouse). I think the price issue is more of a service provider one as opposed to a technology one.

If anyone sees an error in what I have written, please feel free to correct me.

Matthew
