lisa, I downloaded NSCP 4.5 couple weeks ago and haven't had your problem. Still have the old 2 button MS mouse. I do sometimes have my mouse hang up when shutting down, mostly when I click on disconnect modem.
On a previous post someone mentioned, (can't remember whom),how sensitive a mouse is. That when clicking on a page or whatever, try and not move mouse until the page, or whatever is completely loaded.
Have been very careful to try and not move mouse after clicking on disconnect on modem until everything shuts down, so far this has worked for me.
This is only help I can offer (sorry). See your point in not wanting to re-boot, especially when Dell is trading 32 million shares daily and we're trying to scalp, WHEW!.
