APOLOGY TIME:

Denver Post columnist David Harsanyi reminds us today that Rep. John Murtha isn't the only one who owes U.S. Marines an apology for his "cold-blooded killers" slander. After Time magazine falsely reported a few years ago that U.S. Marines committed a massacre in Haditha, Iraq, Murtha, in a fit of anti-war rage, thundered that the U.S. was killing women and children in "cold blood."

Today Harsanyi writes, "Only a couple of months after his remarks, presidential candidate Barack Obama said of Murtha: 'I would never second guess John Murtha . . . I think he's somebody who knows of which he speaks.'"

Of course, we now all know the Haditha slur was a total lie. Murtha based his information off the Time piece, and that info came from a discredited terrorist sympathizer. This week, charges against the seventh Marine were dropped, leaving just the case against the officer.

And once again, Obama is ill-served by his oft-celebrated "judgment." Let's see whether he's a bigger man than Murtha and actually says sorry.
