Tim,
Thanks for the heads up. You've got to do what you think is best, and so do I.
I respect what your thread is about and I greatly respect all the energy you put into it.
I think there is frequently more than one side to an issue and more than one interpretation of the truth and more than one understanding of the facts.
A lot of times I perceive your postings to be very black and white - do not construe that as an insult, it isn't. And I am interested in the gray and that's where I find that the truth ultimately exists.
It fascinates me that now there is very strong credible evidence to say that there were no ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda and there is credible evidence as well, at least Bush & Cheney seem to think, that there are ties.
What is undeniable true one day may be false the next.
Furthermore, if you were to suggest that Reagan was a horrible, very bad president, I would say let's not overlook the good things he'd done.
To my mind, that's a good thing for your thread. I enjoy being a gadfly. It keeps us both on our toes. I am certainly more informed by reading what you initiate as well as how you respond.
Odds are we're not going to convince each other of much, but if we can respectfully become aware of other voices and interpretations of the same facts we gain.
And maybe, once in a well, we'll have our eyes opened to something we would have otherwise missed. I have.
Do what you've got to do. I can find other playgrounds. I just like the view here.
Travel safe, Paul
PS: I too have taken some road trips this summer and for the first time decided to give books on tape (or CD) a try. The one I like the very best was Bill O'Reilly's and on the second road trip, with my 10 year old son to ball games in Detroit and Cleveland and then one at home at Wrigley, he asked to hear some of the O'Reilly Factor. The audio book is much better than the TV show and though we skipped over parts that we too difficult for a ten year old the book led to some excellent discussions. I got the 'books' from the Chicago Public Library and suspect you can find an even better selection in Merced and mail them back when you are done. Cheers. |
