Iron Ore shipments at levels not seen since the '30s.

Iron ore shipments through the Duluth-Superior Harbor are down 61 percent this season, reaching a low not experienced since the mid-1930s, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority said today.

“Taconite shipments have slowed to a trickle,” Adolph Ojard, executive director of the port authority, said in a news release. “Iron ore shipments for Duluth-Superior could test record lows this year with steel plants sitting idle and two dozen lakers in layup.”
